Kimchi Fried Rice Recipe

A delicious and simple kimchi fried rice recipe that you can enhance to your liking for even more enjoyment!

Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings 3 portions

Equipment

  • Chopping board
  • Chef's knife
  • Wok or large frying pan

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ¼ cups cooked and cooled rice (ideally from the day before)
  • ½ cup mature kimchi
  • 2 tbsp. kimchi brine
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp. grated ginger
  • 1 green onion
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp. gochujang or miso paste (for a milder version)
  • 1 tbsp. toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • Seaweed flakes (optional)

Steps
 

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Chop the green onion.
  • Grate the garlic and ginger.
  • Chop the kimchi coarsely, if necessary.
  • Mix the gochujang or miso with water.

Prepare the Fried Rice

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a wok over high heat.
  • Sauté the garlic and ginger for a few seconds.
  • Add the kimchi and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the rice, soy sauce, gochujang (or miso) and kimchi brine.
  • Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from the heat, add the sesame oil and mix.

Serve the Fried Rice

  • Divide the fried rice between bowls.
  • Sprinkle with green onions, sesame seeds, and seaweed flakes (optional).
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

🌱 Vegetarian Bokkeumbap: Add cubes of grilled tofu, marinated tempeh, vegetables and herbs.
🍖 Meatier version: Add leftover chicken, smoked bacon, beef or even fish.
